Final Fantasy 14 Patch 4.4
Over the weekend I decided to dive in and get a PS4 Pro with some Christmas money and my buddy says, 'hey we should give FFXIV a shot!' I think yea! Let's do it! I love Destiny and I've never gotten into a true MMO and I love FF, so why not?!?
So I do my research and find out that the best way to get into the game was to purchase Realm Reborn. No problem. Except it's not available in physical form ANYWHERE..
So whatever. I'll just purchase it via the PSN because it's only $20 and I get a 30 day trial. Why not?!?! Right?!?!
Welp, I purchase and download the 11 GB game to my brand new PS4 Pro, no problem. Then I proceed the launch the program. Then it opens up this SHITTY ASS client (obviously made for some unoptimized web-browser) and proceeds to make me sign up for a Square Enix account. No problem. I've done this sort of thing before. I'm familiar with the process. So I do it.
1hour later.. after I FINALLY receive the confirmation email, it starts downloading crap through the most HORRIBLE game client EVER! Another goddamn 11 GB patch..
I mean seriously?! This thing is going to download a frikin' patch the size of the game download itself? Okay whatever.
Fast forward to 4 DAYS and I have not been able to play the frikin game because after about 1GB into the download of these patch files it quits and says 'unable to download patch files' through the client and automatically relaunches the client and proceeds to make me log in AGAIN!!!!
I've gone through every trouble shoot. I've deleted the game and everything and re downloaded it. Talked to every tech representative from EVERY company (my ISP, PSN, Square Enix online chat) and NO ONE has a solution that DOES NOT make me go over the data cap for my internet service!.. which is 1 TB for home network and 2 GBs for my own VPN (using my phone as a tether).
Un-frikin-believable!.. what a waste of time, money, and resources..
Has anyone encountered this issue and resolved it? because if the ENTIRE internet is not able to offer a solution then I'm SOL!
Edit: Day 5
Well GOOD NEWS! It worked! I woke up this morning after leaving the PS4 on all night and I saw a big green 'PLAY' button.
That's good right? That means I don't have to download anymore patches right?.. RIGHT?!? Lol.
Good riddance what a horrible process.
I got really nervous because when I checked the download around 1am it had slowed to a crawl at .2mb/s. I was patient and persistent though and lft it and it sped back up to .62mb/s around 2am.
Special thanks to AuthenticM and Okawa-San and everyone else that made suggestions.
